French
At St Mary Queen of Martyrs, we believe that learning a foreign language is an essential part of preparing our pupils to become confident, curious and thoughtful global citizens. Our French curriculum is designed to nurture enthusiasm for languages, strengthen communication skills, and foster an appreciation of cultures beyond our own.
We use the Language Angels scheme to ensure lessons are well‑sequenced, engaging and accessible for all learners. Children begin with key vocabulary and simple phrases before progressing to speaking, reading and writing in full sentences. Each unit builds on prior learning, allowing pupils to revisit and apply what they know with increasing confidence.
Our aim is for every child to enjoy learning French, to understand the value of languages in a global community, and to move on to secondary school equipped with strong foundations for further study.
