Art and Design

At St Mary Queen of Martyrs, our Art and Design curriculum empowers children to explore, express, and develop their creativity through a rich range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and diverse craft and design techniques.

We aim to inspire curiosity and excitement by immersing children in the work of great artists, craft makers, and designers from a range of cultures and historical periods. Through this exposure, pupils learn to use the language of art and design to analyse, evaluate, and reflect on both professional works and their own creative journeys.

Our curriculum ensures a clear progression of technical skills from EYFS to Year 6, while also promoting personal growth by encouraging children to take ownership of their learning, make independent choices, and develop confidence in their artistic voice.

We are committed to making Art and Design an inclusive, joyful, and celebratory experience. By showcasing pupils’ achievements through exhibitions, competitions, and wider community engagement, we aim to nurture pride, foster self-belief, and highlight the importance of creativity within our school family.
